Après la participation du Japon à l’Exposition Universelle de 1867 et la découverte de son art si différent des critères traditionnels européens, un véritable engouement se manifeste. La production artistique européenne suit alors cette mode et de nombreux artistes et ébénistes se spécialisent en créations japonisantes.
