Stunning Royal Yellow Marble Altar Seat, completely hand carved in the round, representing St. John and the Eagle. Such Sculpture was a chair for choirs. It comes from a private collection in Venice. Unique block, completely hand carved. Period 1800 They were in total 12 (the twelve apostles), 6 of them have been recovered, including St. Peter, St. Luke, St. Matthew, Judas etc.. Work of exquisite quality and high workmanship. Remarkable care and precision of detail, lot more unique than rare. Bright and bright is the shade of marble, phenomenal veining, marble really valuable and rare. Exceptional as a piece of furniture. You could create a small table with a glass top should you wish to complete the pair. On the bottom is the name. It is in excellent condition, undamaged.
