Stunning Altar Seat in Royal Yellow Marble, completely hand carved in the round, representing St. Mark and the Lion. This Sculpture was used as a chair for choirs. Provenance Venice, private collection, period 1800. The saint is represented with the lion as in his classical iconography. There were a total of 12 (the twelve apostles), several have been recovered, including St. Peter, St. John, Judas, St. Paul, St. Matthew, St. Luke, Judas... Work of fine quality and high workmanship. Remarkable care and precision of detail, lot more unique than rare. Bright and bright is the shade of marble, phenomenal veining, marble really valuable and rare. Exceptional as a piece of furniture.
