Impressive and Rare Pharmacy Mortar in Marble of Istria, worked and carved in the 4 sides with Lion faces, symbol of strength and masculinity but also of sincerity, impulsiveness and passion. Period end 19th century. To underline the color of the Marble, very fine and valuable marble, impeccable details of the animals, precise and refined. The mortar comes from a wealthy pharmacy in the city of Venice, used very few times for its real use, or as a container to chop or mince spices, herbs and anything else. It was more an object of decoration and furnishing, especially considering the "anomalous" decorations with the faces of animals. To note how the lions have been carved, are depicted with a truly obsessive precision, precise details almost verisimilar, incredible as the 4 faces are virtually all the same between them, a sign of great professionalism and craftsmanship of the one who had created. Object more unique than rare given the type of mortar, which gives quality, high workmanship and considerable value. Lively and bright also the Marble of Istria, really prestigious and impeccable lot. Enchanting the veining of the Marble, of extreme beauty. It is in excellent condition, undamaged.
