Majestic Sculpture in the round in Greek Marble Thassos representing a glorious Lion of St. Mark. Origin Venice, private collection, period '800. Spectacular work, unique in the world. The dimensions are remarkable, the weight is considerable. It is part of a pair (right and left), still available. To highlight, despite the size, the quality of the anatomy of the Lion, the care and precision of detail. The lion is depicted with the book open and the classic Latin phrase inscribed "Pax tibi Marce, evangelista meus" or "Peace to you, Mark, my evangelist. Work obtained and carved from a single block of Marble, precious marble, which with the passage of time has taken on an elegant and wonderful patina.
