Table and chairs by Pierre Gautier Delaye. Table, set of four chairs, set of two chairs, set of two stools made in France in 1960 from VVF beech massive. The assembly is assembled according to the tenon-mortise principle, visible on the seat. The patina of the wood is consistent with the age of these furniture. This products are in very good original condition, amazing color and patina. Table W 59 x D 31 x H 29.3 inch Set four chairs W 16 x D 15 x H 31 seat H 18 inch. Set two stool W 13.5 x D 13.5 seat H 17 inch. Set two chairs W 18 x D 18 x H 31 seat H 18 inch. Biography: The young Gautier-Delaye often collaborated with the cabinetmaker Lucien Vergne`res, who also produced furniture for renowned designers such as Jacques Adnet and Andre´ Arbus in his Parisian workshop. While on holiday in Les Landes (S-W France), Vergne`res was observing the local traditional woodworking techniques and craftsmanship. Inspired by this and remembering his mountain holidays, Gautier-Delaye subsequently designed the Week-End series, which consisted of dining room furniture, a sideboard, a bed and a wardrobe. The designs of the successful range were simple and light yet refined in their details. Like the pine and straw furniture of Charlotte Perriand, the Week-End designs never renounce their rural origins. Bibliography: Pierre Favardin, Les De´corateurs des anne´es 50, Editions Norma.
